How to Adopt a dog

The adoption process is best described by clicking on this poster (Acrobat format). We ask those wishing to adopt to complete an adoption application form to give us information not only about the sort of dog to which they would like to offer a home, but also about the home environment where the dog would live. We then see how this matches the type and needs of the dogs at the Rescue Centre at that time. There will be an opportunity to meet any suitable dogs and take them for a walk to get to know them. There is no obligation to take any dog. No dog is needlessly destroyed. It is important to us that each dog is matched to the right home, which may take time, so do not feel a dog must be taken on the first visit. This is in the best interests of both the dog and the new owners. If we are not able to help immediately, all the necessary details will be retained at the Rescue Centre and prospective owners will be contacted when new dogs of interest become available. The public are not able to view the dogs in kennels as this causes distress to our more nervous residents, but please rest assured that prospective owners will be given the opportunity to meet all appropriate dogs.

Please download an adoption application form (Acrobat format) and return to it to us. If you are not local to us you can print this form and then post it to us. We do need your signature on the form please. We do also need to meet people prior to proceeding with adoption. To assist with administration costs we ask for a minimum donation of £1 to register with us. Please be aware that due to the costs involved we do not accept credit or debit cards, so payments will need to be by cash or cheque.

You can also download our Adoption Agreement (Acrobat format) which gives details our conditions of adoption and cost of our dogs. The poster and form are in pdf format and can be read using the standard Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this application you can download it from Adobe.
