How to Adopt a Dog

The process of how to adopt a dog, is best described by clicking on this poster (Acrobat format). We ask those wishing to adopt a dog to complete an adoption application form to give us information not only about the sort of dog to which they would like to offer a home, but also about the home environment where the dog would live. We then see how this matches the type and needs of the dogs at the Rescue Centre at that time. There will be an opportunity to meet any suitable dogs and get to know them. There is no obligation to take any dog.

It is important to us that each dog is matched to the right home, which may take time, so do not feel a dog must be taken on the first visit. This is in the best interests of both the dog and the new owners. If we are not able to help immediately, all the necessary details will be retained at the Rescue Centre and prospective owners will be contacted when new dogs of interest become available.  We do also ask that prospective adopters call the Rescue Centre regularly.  The public are not able to view the dogs in kennels as this causes distress to our more nervous residents, but please rest assured that prospective owners will be given the opportunity to meet all appropriate dogs.  If, after meeting a dog, you wish to progress the adoption then arrangements will be made to spend some more time with the dog to see how you get on with the dog and vice versa.  This is an important part of making sure you go home with the right dog for you and you have a successful rehoming.  For more details please download our  FULL Welcome Pack.

If you wish to proceed please fill in the adoption application form with your choices and preferences and return to us by post, FAX or a scanned email attachment.  Please note we do need your signature on the form. We also need to meet people prior to proceeding with adoption. To assist with administration costs we ask for a minimum donation of £1 to register with us.  Alternatively you would be very welcome to visit the Rescue Centre during our opening hours to discuss your application with a member of the rehoming team.

The poster and forms are in pdf format and can be read using the standard Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this application you can download it from Adobe.

We accept cash, cheque and debit cards.
